{"id":151,"date":"2013-10-24T15:04:30","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T15:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/?page_id=151"},"modified":"2013-10-25T11:07:32","modified_gmt":"2013-10-25T11:07:32","slug":"exhibitions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/events\/2012-2\/exhibitions\/","title":{"rendered":"Exhibitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Exhibitions 2012<\/h1>\n<h2>On Campus: Special Collections, Lancaster University Library<\/h2>\n<p>The Special Collections reading room at Lancaster University Library will be open on Friday 24th, 2.00-5.00 p.m. Saturday 25th 12.00-5.00 p.m. and Sunday 26th February 1.00-4.00 p.m. with a display of Shakespeare related material.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/exhib.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/exhib.jpg\" alt=\"Shakespeare illustrations\" width=\"460\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/exhib.jpg 460w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/exhib-300x271.jpg 300w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/exhib-331x300.jpg 331w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Visitors will be able to see illustrations from the Charles Knight edition of the Works of Shakespeare, images of The Tempest by Alan O&#8217;Cain, theatrical programmes and printed editions of Shakespeare works, many with illustrations.<\/p>\n<p>Times of opening: 1.00 p.m.-5.00 p.m. Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Ruskin Library, Lancaster University<\/h2>\n<h4>&#8216;Even to the frozen ridges of the Alps,<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">Or any other ground inhabitable,<br \/>\nWhere ever Englishman durst set his foot.&#8217; (<em>Richard II<\/em> 1.1.64-6)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">The Ruskin Library will have an exhibition on Ruskin and the Swiss Alps entitled:<br \/>\n<strong><em>\u201cBeautiful effects\u201d: Ruskin\u2019s Daguerreotypes of Switzerland<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n16 January &#8211; 5 April<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_ruskin_mountains.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-208\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_ruskin_mountains.jpg\" alt=\"Mountain view\" width=\"317\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_ruskin_mountains.jpg 317w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_ruskin_mountains-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 317px) 100vw, 317px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An early devotee of the Daguerreotype, Ruskin had acquired his own camera by 1849 and made some 40 Swiss subjects before 1858, of which 23 are now in the Ruskin Library. These are being shown alongside drawings, watercolours, letters and diaries complementing each subject.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancs.ac.uk\/users\/ruskinlib\/Pages\/welcome.html\">Ruskin Library website<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A guide will be available at the entrance to the Conference Centre to escort delegates from the straight to the exhibitions, which will be open on Friday 24th February and Saturday 25th February, 12.-1.30.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h2>Duke&#8217;s Theatre, Lancaster<\/h2>\n<p>In Lancaster, the Gallery in the Duke&#8217;s Theatre will display a selection of Alan O&#8217;Cain&#8217;s paintings inspired by <em>The Tempest<\/em> from 20th February to 11th March.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_tempest_paintings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-207\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_tempest_paintings.jpg\" alt=\"Painting the Tempest\" width=\"340\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_tempest_paintings.jpg 340w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/shakespeare\/files\/2013\/10\/12_tempest_paintings-300x232.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 340px) 100vw, 340px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alan O&#8217;Cain, a graduate of Lancaster University, returns this year to exhibit a selection of paintings that were inspired by his designs for the chilling 2006 RSC production of The Tempest, starring Patrick Stewart.
