BT is the largest telephone infrastructure, and thus broadband provider in the UK. Some would consider them a monopoly.

Whats interesting about this article is how BT had let broadband to go down for thousands of people at once. Furthermore BT had taken this as a serious incident because they launched two investigations, one for fixing the issue and the other one to see if there was any malicious intent for the outage. They found no malicious intent but did end up fixing the problem in two hours with does show the efficiency of BT technicians.

The problem here is that the more centralised the infrastructure is, the more susceptible the network is to attack and has reduced redundancy.
