Although google and facebook provide a valuable service, this doesn’t come free. They’re are using our details for data mining purposes, which some could say is one of the more valuable things on the planet.
The problem here is that can our details then be called our own personal details if Google/Facebook are using them. Of course the data protection would normally come into effect here, but in the license agreement everyone signs, it states that your data will be held outside the EU, thus the DPA has no jurisdiction.
Google, Facebook and various other corporations use Dark Patterns as a way to get the user to give up their personal details.
