A teaching and learning resource for KS3 teachers primarily targeting English and literacy (a flipbook uploaded below), in addition to Citizenship and History was created by ReOPeN, in collaboration with LICAF, commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the organisation set up to support the commemoration of the First World War centenary in 2018. The resource was tested in schools in the north of England and will continue to be applied, e.g. by school teachers, museums (e.g. Lancaster City Museum resources public talk scheduled for March 2020), and university lecturers, relating to English as second language.<\/p>\n

Dr Lackovic worked with English teacher Steph Weber (Queen Elizabeth School\/QES) with the support of QES librarian Gemma Sosnowsky and Aileen McEvoy (LICAF (Lakes International Comic Art Festival management), to develop this learning and teaching toolkit that applies critical thinking and pedagogy principles with graphic novels, and in particular \u201cTraces of the Great War\u201d anthology.<\/p>\n

The resources are relevant to general exploration of war and conflict, suporting a humanistic attitude of “never to be repeated”, acknowledging the complexity and plurality of war experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraces of the Great War\u201d is a remarkable collection of thought provoking graphic narratives, by internationally acclaimed comic book artists, graphic novelists and writers, which explores the continued relevance and resonance of the First World War and its aftermath in our lives today. It consists of 18 short stories. It was commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK\u2019s arts programme for the First World War centenary, La Mission du centenaire de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, On a March\u00e9 Sur Le Bulle and Lakes International Comic Art Festival. It is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, the Heritage Lottery Fund and by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and by South Lakes District Council.
