Her research looks at how connections between above- and belowground processes influence ecosystem carbon and nutrient dynamics. She is happiest when working in forests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Alona Armstrong<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Alona.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-337 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Alona-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Alona researches the terrestrial carbon cycle, sitting at the interface of ecology, hydrology and biogeochemistry. Currently, part of her research focuses on how land use change for energy impacts ecosystem processes and service provision.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Rob Mills<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Rob.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-334 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Rob-150x150.png\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Rob is an experimental ecosystem ecologist with a major focus on using C isotopes to explore the cycling of soil C across timescales of hours to millennia. Although he work in a range of ecosystems, his main emphasis is on mountain systems, with a particular interest in winter ecology and role of changing snow cover on ecosystem processes<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Annette Ryan<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Annette-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-349 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Annette-1-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>As a researcher Annette studied World War II bomber contrails, the impact of drought on the biogenic emission of isoprene and the water use efficiency of crops. She now manages the soils and ecosystem ecology lab and is responsible for lab safety and soil licenses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Laetitia Brechet<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Laetitia-e1488559214267.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-335\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Laetitia-e1488559214267.png\" width=\"150\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a>Laetitia is a tropical forest ecologist with a research focus on soil carbon cycle and tree-soil relationships and biological processes within ecosystems, their spatial and temporal variations, and their linkage to forest ecosystem functioning. She is currently working in Panama.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Luis Lopez-Sangil<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Luis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-332 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Luis-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Luis is working on soil C cycling in forest ecosystems, focused on the effects that both &#8216;priming&#8217; (from increased litter inputs) and drying-rewetting events may have on it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Kate Buckeridge<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Kate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-340 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Kate-e1488559478265-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Kate is a soil and ecosystem ecologist, interested in how global change alters soil microbial communities and biogeochemical cycles. Her focus at LEC is investigating how grassland management impacts microbes and their process rates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Alfonso Lag-Brotons<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Alfonso.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-341 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Alfonso-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Alfonso is interested in soil protection, waste management and bio-energy production, oriented towards the achievement of sustainable agro-systems. He is participating in a NERC RRfW project funded research to develop sustainable fertilisers from bio-energy waste streams (anaerobic digestate and ash).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Richard Randle-Boggis<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Richard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-342 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Richard-e1488559854378-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Richard&#8217;s current research focuses on creating a toolkit to quantify the impacts of solar parks on ecosystem services, providing a platform for renewable energy developers to make informed planning decisions. Previous research includes investigating the impacts of flooding on microbial ecosystems and GHG fluxes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"height: 50px\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Rachel Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Rachel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-333 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/plant-soil\/files\/2013\/04\/Rachel-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Rachels&#8217;s research focuses on biogeochemistry in plant-soil systems including both natural and agricultural ecosystems.
