Academic eligibility<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The candidates must have an undergraduate qualification of good standard and have completed or be in the process of completing a relevant postgraduate (Master’s) degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Testing, Corpus Linguistics, Language Learning and Teaching, or other relevant subject areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Residential eligibility<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This PhD studentship is open to both Home and International (including EU and EEA) candidates. <\/span><\/p>\n

To be considered as a Home candidate, the candidates must satisfy the following residential\u00a0 requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Candidates must be a UK National (meeting residency requirements), or<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Have settled status, or<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirements), or<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Have indefinite leave to remain or enter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The candidates with different residential status (not meeting one of the requirements above) will be considered as International candidates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Please note that while this\u00a0 PhD studentship is open to both Home and International (including EU and EEA) candidates, the studentship will only cover tuition fees up to the Home rate. This is \u00a34,407 in 2020\/21 (exact rate for 2021\/22 subject to confirmation from UKRI). International tuition fees are usually substantially higher than this sum. As a result, it may be necessary for international students (including EU and EEA) to secure additional funding to cover the additional fees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Language eligibility<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    English language requirements for applicants whose native language is not English:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
      \n
    • IELTS Academic test (UKVI Approved) with an overall score of at least 6.5, with a minimum of 6.5 in reading and writing and 6.0 in listening and speaking; or<\/span><\/li>\n
    • IELTS Academic test (Other Centres) with an overall score of at least 6.5, with a minimum of\u00a06.5 in reading and writing and 6.0 in listening and speaking; or<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Pearson PTE Academic with a score of at least 58 and a minimum of 58 in reading and writing and 50 in listening and speaking; or<\/span><\/li>\n
    • ToEFL IBT with an overall score of at least 87, with a minimum of 20 in reading, 24 in writing, 19 in listening and speaking\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      If applicants have either\/both of the following, completed within the last 2 years they\u00a0may not need to submit a test score:<\/span><\/div>\n

      • 2 years full-time study at undergraduate level, in the UK or other majority English speaking country<\/span><\/li>\n
