What is the PG Board?

We are the elected representative body for all members of the Graduate College, including students who live off campus. Each term we organise a PG Forum for all PGR and PGT students to discuss issues affecting their study and time at Lancaster University.

Don’t be put off by all the official stuff; we do loads of fun activities as well! Each year we organise the Graduate College Winter Ball, which is a fantastic night where all students can relax, have fun, and enjoy a fabulous 3-course meal. We also organise the annual Gradfest, which is our most significant event of the year. It features loads of fun activities for young and old, the whole day! Aside from those two big events, we host some smaller ones during the year, so definitely keep an eye on the Graduate College’s Facebook page and our event section for event updates.

Who are your representatives?

The PG Board has eight officers whom all have different responsibilities and represent you on various subjects, and liaise with the Students’ Union. Next to the officers, we have six members without portfolio, who work alongside other PG Board members in the development and implementation of the PG Board projects. All PG Board members have the opportunity to volunteer in various Students’ Union committees.

Below you can find all positions, and their current office-holder:

How can you get involved?

In the beginning of each academic year, after welcome week, nominations are opened for the PG Board. You can nominate yourself through the Students’ Union website (a link will be available when election/nomination opens), you have to write a short manifesto outlining what you want to do and why people should vote for you. After nominating yourself you will be invited to hustings where you have the opportunity to engage with students directly. The following week (week 2 of Michaelmas Term) elections will be opened, after elections you will be notified if you are elected for the position you have nominated yourself. All offices will be up for election in week 1.

If you missed the elections, don’t worry, all vacant positions will be opened again during other election periods in the year. You can also contact a current PG Board member if you want to participate in the organisation of events or to get co-opted in a position. Co-option is a way to get into office when there are no elections, when you are co-opted you hold the office until next elections where you can nominate yourself and get elected.
