For Portuguese version, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/noticias\/geral\/nova-recebe-universidades-de-cambridge-e-de-lancaster-para-workshop-research-latin\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"page-title\"><strong>NOVA WELCOMES UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE AND UNIVERSITY OF LANCASTER FOR THE WORKSHOP RESEARCH IN LATIN AMERICA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The event fostered collaborations between researchers from different backgrounds, enabling them to share knowledge and work together in projects with impact in Latin America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On April 16,\u00a0<strong>NOVA University Lisbon<\/strong>\u00a0hosted theworkshop\u00a0<strong><em>Research in Latin America<\/em><\/strong>, in partnership with the\u00a0<strong>University of Cambridge<\/strong>. The event, promoted by the\u00a0<strong>NOVA In the Globe\u00a0<\/strong>initiative, brought together researchers from Cambridge and NOVA, from different research fields and schools, who conduct applied research focused in Latin America, and had\u00a0<strong>Lancaster University<\/strong>\u00a0as a special guest.<\/p>\n<p>The event fostered collaborations between researchers from different backgrounds, enabling them to share knowledge and work together in projects with impact in Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>In order to stimulate the development of ideas for collaborative and multidisciplinary projects, the participants were divided into four thematic sessions:\u00a0<em>Development Economics<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Health Science<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Science &amp; Technology<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Social Sciences &amp; Humanities<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended not only by the\u00a0<strong>Vice-Rector of NOVA, Professor\u00a0Jo\u00e3o Amaro de Matos,<\/strong>\u00a0but also by professors\u00a0<strong>Emanuel Gomes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jo\u00e3o Crespo<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alexandre Abrantes<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Pedro Cardim<\/strong>, experts in the different thematic areas, and by researchers from\u00a0<em><strong>Cambridge\u00a0Global Challenges (CGC)<\/strong><\/em>, an initiative from the University of Cambridge that aims to promote multidisciplinary research with an impact in developing countries, as well as researchers from Lancaster University.<\/p>\n<p>The creation of the\u00a0<strong>NOVA Institute for Global Development (NOVA In The Globe)<\/strong>\u00a0is one of NOVA&#8217;s strategic initiatives\u00a0which, similarly to the\u00a0<strong><em>Cambridge\u00a0Global Challenges (CGC)<\/em><\/strong><em>, is\u00a0<\/em>designed to work as a centre across the institution that promotes\u00a0the collaboration and interdisciplinarity of areas and whose research is guided by sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference\u00a0<em>Research in Latin America<\/em>\u00a0was the third action promoted by the Institute, following the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/node\/24389\/\">Conference\u00a0<em>Research in Africa<\/em><\/a>, also in partnership with the University of Cambridge, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/en\/calendar\/general\/nova-globe-conference-cycle-research-europe-january-10-11\">Conference Research in Europe<\/a>, in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/en\/news\/nova\/nova-and-lancaster-university-establish-strategic-partnership\">Lancaster University<\/a>, that took place in the Rectorate of NOVA in October 2018 and January 2019, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/sites\/default\/files\/rla_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/sites\/default\/files\/rla_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"690\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the NOVA website (for original see here).
