You<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> <span style=\"color: #000000\">will be required to attend the laboratory <strong>twice<\/strong>, once <strong>before<\/strong> receiving hearing aids from your<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">audiologist and<strong> two weeks after<\/strong> you begin using them. On your first visit, you will be asked to go<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">through a questionnaire about your health and then will have some measurements taken, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-207x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-846 alignleft\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-207x300.jpeg 207w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-706x1024.jpeg 706w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-768x1113.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-1060x1536.jpeg 1060w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683-1413x2048.jpeg 1413w, http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/nosalab\/files\/2024\/09\/IMG_1683.jpeg 1521w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/>such<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">as your Blood Pressure, height and weight; we will also take a small blood sample from your<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">finger to measure your cholesterol levels. Afterwards, we will measure how your brain responds to<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">sound using Electroencephalography (EEG). EEG is a non invasive, painless way of recording your<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">brain activity using sensors built into a swimming cap. During the EEG, you will be asked to listen to<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">some sounds for around ten minutes. Then, at the end of the session, we will ask you to listen to six<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">sentences and report back any words from each sentence that you can hear. On your second visit you<\/span> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">will be asked to repeat the EEG and sentence repetition exercises.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span><strong style=\"color: #000000\">Participant requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">We need volunteers who are fluent English speakers, ages 65-80<\/span> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">diagnosed with hearing loss and due to begin using hearing aids for the first time.<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">There are some additional criteria that you must meet to participate.
