This study is testing a novel method for inducing hallucinations in the laboratory to understand the neural mechanism for multisensory hallucinations.
Study details:
This is an in-person study taking place on campus at Lancaster University. You will be required to attend the laboratory and take part in a short study. Before you attend you will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire about aberrant experiences such as hallucinations that you may have experienced. At the laboratory, you will be presented with images and sounds which are designed to elicit hallucinations in some people and you will be asked to rate the subjective intensity of your experiences.
Participant requirements:
We need volunteers of ages 18-40. There are some additional criteria that you must meet to participate. You cannot take part if you:
- Have any prior history of epilepsy or seizures of unknown origin
- Have any neurological injury.
- Have tinnitus.
- Have hyperacusis.
- Have any neurological condition (besides migraine) requiring medication as treatment.
- Have any psychiatric condition requiring medication as treatment.
- Have any ocular conditions (e.g., astigmatism, colour blindness).
- Have any hearing loss (partial or complete).
