Castles in Medieval and Early Modern Culture<\/h1>\n

Our annual one-day conference at Lancaster Castle, run as part of the Northern Premodern Seminar, will focus on the significance of castles in medieval and early modern culture. What does a castle represent? How does the construction, maintenance, restoration, defence, invasion or appropriation of a castle change the relationship between those inside and outside its walls?<\/p>\n

We invite proposals for short papers (15-20 minutes) on castles – medieval or early modern – from a range of disciplines including literature, performance, history and heritage studies, archeology and architecture.<\/p>\n

Please send proposals (title, your contact details and outline of 250 words) to a.g.findlay@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a> by 1st March 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Papers will be selected to form 3 panels to complement our plenary lecture:<\/p>\n
