Thank you Cosmin, Katerina and Denis!<\/p>\n<p>One of the things that has me thinking is the relationship between technologies of mobility, power, the good society and utopian momentum. The question &#8216;What is it about the bike?&#8217; raised a number of really interesting responses. Here&#8217;s a list from my notes:<\/p>\n<p>Autonomy<br \/>\nLets you see hidden bits of the city<br \/>\nPain<br \/>\nRhythm<br \/>\nSimplicity with a history of simplicity<br \/>\nBalance<br \/>\nExposure<br \/>\nInclusive<br \/>\nBecomes part of you<br \/>\nAlmost human<br \/>\nTouched by you<br \/>\nIndependence<br \/>\nEccentricity<br \/>\nFreedom<br \/>\nA wider roaming range<br \/>\nMundane<br \/>\nOut of synch with the momentum of automobility<br \/>\nAuthenticity<br \/>\nAffording the joy of flow<br \/>\nContinuous movement<br \/>\nPlayful, associate with childhood<br \/>\nRisky<br \/>\nZen-like self-abnegation<br \/>\nChallenges hegemonic things<br \/>\nFixed gear means you&#8217;ve got to keep moving<br \/>\nSkill<br \/>\nUn-gendering<br \/>\nThe histories of all these things<\/p>\n<p><strong>And added since: &#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nIt was\/is a Discovery as much as an Invention<br \/>\nHighly diverse and individualized<br \/>\nDIY and cheap vs. professional and expensive<br \/>\nMinimalistic aesthetics<br \/>\nExpresses meaning and values<br \/>\nSociocultural signifier<i class=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n<p>If you think of more things to add, tweet @mbuscher #aboutthebike<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2016 Cycling and Society Conference here at Cemore\u00a0has been inspiring.
