The Maths Learning Development Team offers the following activities to Lancaster University students:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Embedded maths workshops\u00a0 \u00a0– these weekly workshops cover the material introduced in the mainstream maths lectures.
    \nThese workshops are offered for first year students in Engineering, Maths & Stats and Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC).<\/li>\n
  2. Co-teaching\u00a0 – running mainstream workshops in collaboration with academic staff (LEC).<\/li>\n
  3. A series of ‘Maths Skills’ workshops targeting students without A Level Maths (now available to all LU students).<\/li>\n
  4. A series of maths and stats workshops targeting particular topics and correlated with the mainstream maths modules (LUMS).<\/li>\n
  5. Generic maths \/ stats workshops – offered termly.<\/li>\n
  6. Maths & Stats Help (MASH) Centre (LUMS) – offers 45 min bookable sessions with a maths tutor (for ug LUMS students); MASH is open for 6 hours per week.<\/li>\n
  7. Maths \/Stats Drop-ins in the Learning Zone – offered weekly, provide short consultations.<\/li>\n
  8. Maths Boot Camps – run once per term on a Saturday.
    \nMaths Boot Camp offers a series of parallel extended workshops covering Algebra, Calculus (basic & advanced levels) and Statistics.<\/li>\n
  9. One-to-one \/ small group tutorials<\/li>\n
  10. Diagnostic tests<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    New initiatives<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Academic Mentoring Scheme – supporting SpLD students –\u00a0 (a pilot run in Physics and LEC).<\/p>\n

    Academic Excellence Maths\u00a0 workshops – weekly workshops designed to challenge students and supplement the mainstream maths course\u00a0 (a pilot run in Physics).<\/p>\n

    Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Scheme – the first PASS scheme introduced at Lancaster University (a pilot run in the School of Computing and Communication).<\/p>\n

    “Overcoming your fear of maths” – in the workshop students learn about maths anxiety and how it can affect their performance; students get some advice on how to overcome their fear of maths.<\/p>\n

    “Pre-University Maths Skills This Summer” – a brochure with maths problems\u00a0 – sent to engineering students in the summer for self-study.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
