Workshop 6: Calculus on Curves and Surfaces (for maths students) – ALL DAY EVENT
In this workshop (Part 1 and Part 2), we will cover theory of curves and surfaces. In both cases, our main goal is to describe the main tools of the theory of differentiation (Frenet frame, gradient field, implicit function theorem) and work on applications.

- Periodic functions, the Fourier Series (some examples)
- Eigenvalues and eigenvectors,
- Ordinal differential equations.
Workshop 8: Vector Calculus (for physics students)
10.00 – 12.00 Morning Session – Vector Calculus (Part 1)

- Scalar and vector fields, dot product, cross product, differentiation of vectors, space curves, arc length;
- Surface and surface area, volume, chain rule, normals and tangent planes. Sketching 2D curves and 3D surfaces;
- Gradient, divergence and curl. Applications to particular problems.
12.30 – 14.30 Afternoon Session – Vector Calculus (Part 2)

- Curvilinear coordinate systems, bases for vector fields;
- Line (path) integrals and surface integrals. Stokes’ theorem. Volume integrals and Gauss divergence theorem;
- Connectivity, conservative fields and scalar potentials.
