Our Aim
At Lancaster University, we provide a proactive, tailored, inclusive, and timely delivered service which meets diverse LU students’ needs in maths support. We aim at advancing students’ knowledge and skills, improving their academic performance, confidence and preparedness for the workplace.
We have been achieving this through

- Coherent and targeted support for students lacking numeracy skills and/or confidence in this area of their study;
- A responsive and flexible team aligned with evolving university and national strategy;
- Consultancy advice and training on inclusive teaching of maths and stats within the context of the discipline;
- Development of a range of activities that are embedded into the course delivery and closely integrated within the teaching process;
- Addressing students’ diverse learning needs –
- through playing a consultancy, advisory role as well as being engaged in curriculum development for effective transition to university study.
- through close collaboration with academic staff in designing new / diversifying ways of course delivery, e.g. including summer schools and/or online activities;
- fostering an inclusive approach in supporting students’ learning in maths;
- developing a research-informed approach to maths learning development.
