Exceptional facilities available to the group include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unique cryogenic equipment in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/physics\/research\/experimental-condensed-matter\/low-temperature-physics\/\">Low-temperature Physics lab<\/a>. Very few groups have access to temperatures below 1\u00a0mK, but we are one of them.<\/li>\n<li>State-of-the art lab space. The recently commissioned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/physics\/isolab\/\">IsoLab<\/a> is one of the most advanced environments for studying quantum effects in controlled conditions.<\/li>\n<li>An advanced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/quantum-technology\/\">nanofabrication facility<\/a> operating in class 100 and 1000 cleanrooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px\"> The historic\u00a0city of Lancaster\u00a0is close to spectacular coastlines, the rugged Forest of Bowland, and the famous Lake District. It has excellent road and rail links and an affordable quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Prospective postdocs<\/h2>\n<p>Please contact Dr Laird to discuss upcoming openings. Previous interns have synthesized carbon nanotubes, built electronic circuits, and simulated quantum devices. Future projects may resemble those listed under <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/laird-group\/people\/join-us\/mphys-projects\/\">MPhys projects<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<p>Most of our interns are Lancaster undergraduates recruited through the Department&#8217;s regular summer programme but we are open to outstanding candidates from elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h2>Prospective MPhys project students<\/h2>\n<p>Projects are advertised to the Lancaster MPhys cohort usually in May each year.
