Faculty Employability Student Ambassador

We are looking to recruit a Faculty Employability Student Ambassador, to support the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Placements & Internships team mainly with our social media accounts, content collection, and promotional messages. As a team of two, we work collaboratively with colleagues within Faculty departments and across the university to support and/or facilitate opportunities for students to gain meaningful work experience both in and extracurricular to their degree. We are looking for a student to support our work by creating and collating a collection of employability stories from a mixture of current students, alumni, and employers. This will involve a mixture of contacting these groups to arrange filming, or attending key employability events and filming these. We have started to gather some videos, an example of which can be found here.

Main Duties

  • Capturing content for promotional purposes at a range of events; a mixture of photos, videos, student/alumni stories, employer insights etc
  • Interviewing students, alumni, staff, and employers to gather content
  • Editing videos and photos as required using appropriate software
  • Supporting and attending employability related activities e.g. careers fairs and documenting the activity
  • Uploading content to the social media platforms we use (Facebook and Instagram) as well as our WordPress blog
  • Any other duties appropriate to the role as required by the line manager

Skills and Experience Required

  • You must be a Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences student- your major must sit within one of the following departments: English Literature and Creative Writing, History, LICA, Languages and Cultures, Law School, Linguistics and English Language, Politics, Philosophy, and Religion or Sociology
  • Previous experience of capturing and editing videos e.g. with use of Adobe Premier Pro or other software to produce short videos (please send examples to support your application)
  • Enthusiasm towards, and understanding of, employability activity within the faculty
  • Previous experience of using social media to promote events, share engaging content and build a network or following
  • Confidence to network professionally and conduct interviews
  • Ideally, you will possess your own equipment (we will consider students who don’t possess the required equipment too)

Key Information

Start date: early Michaelmas term
Duration: 140 hours
Working pattern: flexible- we have a schedule of events taking place in Michaelmas term which we would expect the successful candidate to support
Rate of pay: National Living Wage- £8.21 per hour + £0.99 holiday pay per hour totaling £9.20 per hour
