With current events causing mounting uncertainty in the world, such as the election of Donald Trump, growth of ISIS, growth of extremism and Brexit, which was the subject matter of an in-house project this year, the research undertaken within RIIP has never been more important, more impactful nor more relevant. This RIIP research provides a critical voice to the way in which such events are impacting on our world today and the means by which we manage such moments so to inform the future of tomorrow today.

The Richardson Institute Internship programme (RIIP) has been running since 2012 and is a key part of the Institute’s vision of contributing to contemporary research. The programme provides advanced undergraduates and postgraduates the opportunity to expand their knowledge of peace and conflict and gain research experience. Interns work alongside a number of external organisations conducting research broadly on the field of peace and conflict. Interns participate in a number of training workshops throughout their internships that address key skills such as research ethics, problem solving, report writing and analysis as well as other team based activities that aim to further develop students as researchers. With over 100 students participating from across the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, this voluntary programme is a unique opportunity for students to contribute to real-world research.
