{"id":1698,"date":"2026-08-18T15:25:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/factor\/?p=1698"},"modified":"2026-08-18T15:30:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:30:24","slug":"welcome-to-mindviss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/factor\/2026\/08\/18\/welcome-to-mindviss\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to MindViss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/social-sciences\/people\/justin-lo\">Dr Justin Lo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/social-sciences\/people\/isobelle-clarke\">Dr Isobelle Clarke<\/a> (Linguistics and English Language) are looking for participants for a new study exploring <strong>language and voice variation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And, unusually for something described as &#8220;taking part in research&#8221;, this one really is quite short.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Participants will have <strong>three brief phone conversations<\/strong> with a member of the research team over the course of around two weeks. Each call lasts about <strong>one minute<\/strong> and involves acting out a short scripted scenario. So, in total, roughly three minutes of talking. If it helps to persuade you, that&#8217;s considerably less time than many automated phone systems spend assuring you that your call is really very important to them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the recordings will help the team investigate the different (and similar) ways that speakers use language and voice, with the longer-term aim of developing better ways of visualising this variation.<\/p>\n<h3>Who can take part?<\/h3>\n<p>The team is looking for people who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are <strong>18 or over<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>grew up in the UK<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>speak <strong>English as a main language<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants who complete the recordings will receive a <strong>\u00a35 gift voucher<\/strong> as a thank-you for their time.<\/p>\n<h3>Interested?<\/h3>\n<p>You can find full information about the study and sign up here: <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/MindViss\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/MindViss<\/a>.
