The\u00a0<\/span>2019 academic year has begun and\u00a0<\/span>our new first year students started their\u00a0<\/span>Experiencing Sociology Programme<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0by attending the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Kick-Starting your University Career\u2019<\/span>\u00a0session<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0 This was\u00a0<\/span>followed by<\/span>\u00a0our<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>hair-raising Halloween social.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Students were greeted by staff from across the university\u00a0<\/span>who were waiting at a variety of stalls offering<\/span>\u00a0a marketplace of activities beyond the degree programme that are available<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to our students. This was a bespoke event where Sociology majors and combined majors could get one-to-one and face-to-face advice<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>about opportunities and\u00a0experiences\u00a0they could get involved in while studying at Lancaster.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our careers marketplace gives\u00a0<\/span>students the time to talk to staff about the significance of building\u00a0<\/span>in particular opportunities<\/span>\u00a0to a degree specifically in Sociology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This year students could chat to<\/span>\u00a0(among others)<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Following the hustle and bustle of the stalls<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0students went on to discuss all these new possibilities over<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Halloween snacks and refreshments<\/span>.\u00a0 Little did they know we had a spine-tingling teaser of a challenge for them –\u00a0<\/span>to represent a sociological concept through the medium of pumpkin carving!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Teams were formed, pumpkin, pipe cleaners and glitter were\u00a0<\/span>tossed around and all that was left was for each group to present their pumpkin.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Each team did a great job with some extremely inventive creations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The\u00a02019 academic year has begun and\u00a0our new first year students started their\u00a0Experiencing Sociology Programme,\u00a0by attending the\u00a0\u2018Kick-Starting your University Career\u2019\u00a0session.\u00a0\u00a0 This was\u00a0followed by\u00a0our\u00a0hair-raising Halloween social.\u00a0\u00a0 Students were greeted by staff from across the university\u00a0who were waiting at a variety of stalls offering\u00a0a marketplace of activities beyond the degree programme that are available\u00a0to our students.
