Spatial Humanities 2018: Final details

Arrival/Registration: Registration and all sessions will be held in the George Fox Building (GFX) which is in the South Campus on the map available from here: For directions to Lancaster see: Registration will open at 9:00 in the George Fox Foyer with the Welcome talk at 9:30.

Schedule: Overview and full timetables are available. We hope that these are now complete but there may still be last minute changes. As well as the keynotes and the sessions, there will also be demonstrations of a number of Spatial Humanities projects on Thursday lunchtime in LT2/3 – do feel free to drop in.

Chairing/Speaking: Sessions are 1:40 minutes and have either three or four speakers. Papers should be a maximum of 20 minutes to give plenty of time for questions although in sessions with three speakers 25 minutes should be okay. As a general rule, we will keep questions until all papers have been presented unless there are any particularly pressing issues at the end of a paper, however, feel free to vary from this if you wish. We request that speakers use the microphones that are available in the lecture theatres.

Wifi: There are two ways of connecting to wifi: ‘eduroam’ is available for registered users, if you are not on eduroam then connect through LU-visitor. See: for more details.

Social media: We will be tweeting under the #SHums2018 hashtag.

Conference dinner: The dinner will be in the Stone Castle Grill at 23 Castle Hill, Lancaster (directly opposite the castle – see for directions). It will take place at 7:00 on Thursday evening where a set curry menu will be served. Drinks are not included and will have to be purchased separately. Please note: this event is for people who have a ticket only and is not included in the standard registration fee. If you would still like to come, please let us know as soon as possible and we will try our best to accommodate you.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us by email ( or speak to us at the conference.
