This list is clearly not exhaustive but points to other work going on in the UK around children, young people and flooding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Save the Children<\/strong> has produced a leaflet giving advice to families, carers and teachers who are concerned about the impact of emergencies on children&#8217;s well-being.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cyp-floodrecovery\/files\/2016\/01\/10_Tips_for_helping_children_cope_with_emergencies.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">How to help children cope with emergencies<\/span><\/u><\/a> could be of use to those supporting and working with children and young people who have been affected by the flooding in the UK.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JBA Trust<\/strong> has produced some resources to support learning about rivers, coasts and flood visualisation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/view.pagetiger.com\/jba-trust-learning-at-home-ages-7-11\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ages 7-11<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/view.pagetiger.com\/resources-for-learning-at-home-ages-12-16\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ages 12-16<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/view.pagetiger.com\/jba-trust-learning-at-home-college-university-or-cpd\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">College, university or CPD<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Rivers Trust<\/strong> has created a <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.theriverstrust.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">schools hub<\/a> with interactive educational resources for key stages 2, 3, 4 &amp; 5.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Met Office<\/strong> has created a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/met-office-for-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">curriculum-linked resources for 7-11 and 11-14 year olds<\/a> that help young people understand the wide-reaching impacts of weather and climate change locally and globally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surrey County Council<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreycc.gov.uk\/people-and-community\/emergency-planning-and-community-safety\/emergency-planning\/prepare-for-emergencies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Surrey Prepared<\/a>\u00a0website includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surreycc.gov.uk\/people-and-community\/emergency-planning-and-community-safety\/emergency-planning\/prepare-for-emergencies\/training-and-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">training and resources for young people<\/a>, their parents, carers and teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Anglia Water<\/strong> SUDS project<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglianwater.co.uk\/_assets\/media\/SUDS-Make_rain_happy-clickable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Make Rain Happy &#8211; protecting your environment using sustainable drainage<\/a> is a resource designed for use in schools and draws links between two extreme weather events: drought and flooding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betajester.co.uk\/flash-flood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FlashFlood<\/a> is a virtual reality film and is a great way to allow children and adults to become immersed in a flood event if they haven\u2019t witnessed one before (sponsored by <strong>NERC\u00a0 &#8211; Natural Environment Research Council<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Between 2013 and 2015, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/\" target=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>National Flood Forum<\/strong><\/a> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-environment-food-rural-affairs\" target=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-environment-food-rural-affairs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Defra<\/a><\/strong> ran a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/pathfinder\/\" target=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/pathfinder\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Resilience Community Pathfinders Scheme<\/a>, a programme which aimed to \u201chelp stimulate innovative approaches to community flood risk management and enable communities at risk of flooding to work with key partners to develop innovative local solutions.\u201d\u00a0 Resources created during this project include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From the <strong>Rochdale Pathfinder Project<\/strong>, a film produced by the <strong>First Rochdale Scout Group <\/strong>about their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oHMn2q4TngM&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oHMn2q4TngM&amp;feature=youtu.be\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Awareness Project<\/a>\u00a0which received the 2015 Silver Welly Award.<\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>Swindon Pathfinder Project<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/swindon\/index.html\" target=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk\/swindon\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Information and Guidance eLearning package<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the film <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/130095711\" target=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/130095711\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood &#8211; Behind the Scenes<\/a>, which documents, among other things, the development of a \u2018Junior Flood Champions\u2019 programme in schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>Northamptonshire Pathfinder Project<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>an online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floodtoolkit.com\/\" target=\"http:\/\/www.floodtoolkit.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Toolkit<\/a>, which includes a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floodtoolkit.com\/education\/\" target=\"http:\/\/www.floodtoolkit.com\/education\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Aware Schools Pack<\/a>, aimed at primary school pupils<\/li>\n<li>the \u2018Don\u2019t be a Numpty\u2019 series of cartoons, which includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=blTOzfGxvy8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flood Proofing<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_CIqf8elpeo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keep Out of Flood Water <\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2wM0a3e17nE\" target=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2wM0a3e17nE\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Have a Grab Bag Ready<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/csa.aspier.co.uk\/wordpress\/\" target=\"http:\/\/csa.aspier.co.uk\/wordpress\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duke of Cornwall Community Safety Award<\/a> <\/strong>was created in response to severe flooding in Cornwall and aims to promote better emergency preparedness. The award is open nationally to young people aged 5-18 predominantly within uniformed organisations but it is also starting to be rolled out in schools and youth organisations. From 2012-2016 over 18,000 young people completed the award.<\/p>\n<p>Play the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepa.org.uk\/\"><strong>Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0updated version of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.floodlinescotland.org.uk\/floodline-kids\/\">\u2018The Flood Game\u2019<\/a>\u00a0and see if you can make it out of the house to safety! The game comes with instructions for players, parents and teachers. Also take a look at their other fun resources including this short film about an <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/87583213\">Interactive flooding model <\/a>which demonstrates, in an engaging way, how flooding can occur in an urban setting and what people can do to protect themselves from the impacts of floods.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Susie the Childminder\u2019 series, created by <strong>Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum<\/strong>, includes a book aimed at young children entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/wiltshireandswindonprepared.org.uk\/the-flood\" target=\"http:\/\/wiltshireandswindonprepared.org.uk\/the-flood\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Flood<\/a> (available online with additional learning resources), which explores what happens when there is a flood at Susie\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>British Red Cross\u00a0<\/strong>have created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org.uk\/get-involved\/teaching-resources\/the-pillowcase-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pillowcase Project<\/a>, an emergency preparedness resource for 7-11 year-olds, designed to help children understand, cope with and respond to weather-related emergencies that could happen in their community.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatif-guidance.org\/\" target=\"http:\/\/www.whatif-guidance.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What if\u2026?<\/a> programme is a set of interactive games designed by the <strong>Essex Resilience Forum<\/strong> to help children think about what to do in emergency situations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heps.gov.uk\/lets-get-ready\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Humber Local Resilience Forum<\/strong><\/a> has created a children\u2019s activity booklet <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cyp-floodrecovery\/files\/2015\/07\/Childrens-Booklet-Lets-get-ready-for-an-emergency.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Let\u2019s Get Ready For An Emergency\u2019<\/a> with an accompanying set of <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cyp-floodrecovery\/files\/2015\/07\/Teacher-booklet-info.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teacher Notes<\/a>. The activity booklet includes sections on fire and flood safety using dot-to-dot, colouring and word search activities.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0e-Learning Prevention, Preparedness and Response (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.e-ppr.eu.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">e-PPR<\/a>) to Natural Disasters EU project (2014-16) involved Northumberland Fire &amp; Rescue Service in developing an e-learning platform for children &amp; adults about floods, wildfires, heatwaves and storms.
