It will explore the commercial value within Intellectual Property and importance of freedom to operate. An introduction to patenting will cover the rights granted by a patent, the patenting process (UK and overseas), the vocabulary of patents, patenting costs, timescales and the role of the patent attorney. It will also cover some of the obligations on a patent holder, specifically the requirement to enforce patents.<br \/>\nExamples will be given throughout to make the session practical and meaningful.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>11:00 \u2013 Refreshment break<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><strong>11:15 \u2013 12:30 Introduction to Trademarks and Copyright<\/strong><\/b><br \/>\nThis session will explore the difference between Trademarks and Copyright, the process of how you go about securing each, the costs and timelines involved and what happens if you get it wrong.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>12:30 Networking lunch<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><strong>13:30 \u2013 14.15 Design Rights and IP Enforcement<\/strong><\/b><br \/>\nDesign Rights and registering them, the costs and timelines involved. IP management and enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>14:15 \u2013 15:00 Break-out Sessions<\/strong><\/b><br \/>\nAttendees will be given the opportunity to join break-out groups, the first on Patenting, and the second on Trademarks and Design Rights. These will be an opportunity for attendees to raise any specific issues they have. Delegates will also have an opportunity (on a first come \/ first served basis) to book a 10 minute slot with a Patent Attorney.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>15:00 \u2013 15:15 Refreshment break<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><strong>15:15 \u2013 16.00 The Need for an IP Strategy<\/strong><\/b><br \/>\nThis session will cover why businesses should have an IP strategy, and how different types of IP can form part of it. It will cover some of the practicalities associated with this including the implications of IP in different countries and the potential tax implications.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>16:00 Review and Close<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Refreshments will be provided throughout and there is free parking at the Penrith Conference &amp; Business Centre<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Eco-innovation workshops<\/strong><\/b>: Open to small and medium sized enterprises based in Cumbria, to facilitate business innovation and commercial success.
