Our Projects
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tProjects include work focused primarily on the UK as well as international comparative research. By fostering a culture of support for early career researchers through to more senior members of staff, the Centre serves to incubate new ideas as well as progress major programmes of externally funded work.<\/p>\n


\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTowards a Family Justice Observatory: A Scoping Study (2016-2017)\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n

Funded by the Nuffield Foundation, this scoping studyexplores the feasibility of establishing a new Family Justice Observatory.<\/p>\n


\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tVulnerable Birth Mothers and Recurrent Care Proceedings (2014-2017)\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n

A mixed methods study led by Professor Karen Broadhurst and funded by the Nuffield Foundation.<\/p>\n


\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFamily Drug and Alcohol Court: National Roll-Out (2015 -2017)\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n

Led by Judith Harwin, this a project is funded by the Children\u2019s Services Innovation Fund.<\/p>\n


\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSupervision Orders and Special Guardianship: a national study (2015-2018)\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n

Funded by the Nuffield Foundation, aims to produce a national picture of the contribution of supervision orders to family justice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Care Leavers, Pregnancy and Parenthood
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCommissioned by Coram (in partnership with Dr Debbie Fallon at Manchester University), this research review aimed to scope national and international initiatives addressing sexual health and relationship needs of care experienced youth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Social Value of Charities in the Landscape of Helping Services (2016 – 2020)
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis ESRC funded doctoral project undertaken by Cath Hill aims to capture the social value of charitable organisations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Interpretation of Children\u2019s Rights within the Law
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis doctoral project undertaken by Louise Rae focused on potential conflict between the rights of children and the rights of parents within the family justice system.<\/p>\n

Recent Entry Migrant Children in the English Care System
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLaura Aruparayil, a pediatrician with specialist knowledge of looked after children, is conducting this doctoral project focusing on the health and social welfare needs of recent entry migrants in state care. (ESRC CASE programme funded).<\/p>\n

Social Security and Wage Poverty
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tConducted by Chris Grover, this project focused on state supplementation of the wages of income-poor working families at various times since the early 19th century.<\/p>\n


\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tUp Against It: Fathers in Care Proceedings\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n

Funded by the Nuffield Foundation, this collaborative project examines the scale, pattern and dynamics of fathers’ recurrent appearances in care proceedings.<\/p>\n
