On Thursday 28 October 2021 from 4pm-6pm UK BST, the Connected Sociologies<\/a> project will be hosting a discussion on\u00a0Rethinking British Citizenship: The British Nationality Act 1981 from Decolonisation to Brexit<\/span>. Timed to take place within a few days of the 40 year anniversary of the British Nationality Act 1981 being granted Royal assent, this event chaired by Amit Singh<\/strong> (Connected Sociologies) brings together in conversation Anne-Marie Fortier<\/strong> (Lancaster University), Devyani Prabhat<\/strong> (University of Bristol), with podcast host and producer Michaela Benson<\/strong> (Lancaster University), to discuss the colonial legacies in British citizenship law, contemporary immigration policy, and the citizenship test.<\/p>\n

Michaela Benson<\/a> is Professor in Public Sociology at Lancaster University, co-lead of the ESRC-funded project Rebordering Britain and Britons after Brexit<\/a>, and host and producer of Who do we think we are?<\/p>\n

Anne-Marie Fortier<\/a> is Professor in Sociology at Lancaster University and the author of Uncertain citizenship: life in the waiting room<\/a> (Manchester University Press, 2021).<\/p>\n

Devyani Prabhat <\/a>is Professor in Law at the University of Bristol, author of Britishness, Belonging and Citizenship <\/a>(Policy Press, 2018) and editor of Citizenship in times of turmoil<\/a> (Edward Elgar, 2019)<\/p>\n
