{"id":349,"date":"2017-02-02T11:28:37","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T11:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/beyondlec\/?p=349"},"modified":"2019-08-07T14:01:11","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T14:01:11","slug":"andy-land","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/beyondlec\/2017\/02\/02\/andy-land\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Land (NCS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Name:<\/strong> Andrew Land<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject:<\/strong> BA(hons) Human Geography; MSc European Environmental Management<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year Graduated:<\/strong> 2002 (BA); 2003 (MSc)<\/p>\n<p><strong>College:<\/strong>\u00a0Cartmel<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where are you now and what are you doing?<\/strong><br \/>\nFounding Director of NCS, a Building Surveying and Project Management consultancy based in Birmingham and London.\u00a0 We offer building surveying and construction project management services on commercial projects to funds, property companies, landlords and tenants across office, retail, industrial, healthcare, leisure properties\/developments etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would you like to do next?<\/strong><br \/>\nContinue to grow our business and develop additional services.\u00a0 On a personal level I\u2019m interested in developing my management experience and skills further and as such am currently serving as Vice Chair on a school governing board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why did you choose to study at Lancaster?<\/strong><br \/>\nHigh quality of degree and teaching, particularly in the (then) Geography department; campus atmosphere; collegiate system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was your favourite part of your degree and why?<\/strong><br \/>\nField trips to Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris were all enjoyable and \u2018productive\u2019!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you think your time at Lancaster prepared you for what you\u2019re currently doing?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt taught me self-management and critical skills.\u00a0 It also enhanced my ability to learn and take on new skills, which has been crucial as I have re-trained in project management and had to learn business management skills at pace!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What did you enjoy most about your time at Lancaster?<\/strong><br \/>\nThe social atmosphere at Lancaster is superb \u2013 the collegiate system contributes to this in a big way.\u00a0 I made life-long friends who are now scattered across the world in jobs ranging from airline pilot to barrister.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can find more about Andy Land&#8217;s career on LinkedIn <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/andrewland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"excerpt\">Lancaster University gave Andy self-management and critical skills.
